How it all falls into place...
Throughout this PCR I have studied the mindsets and operations of some of the world's top innovators. It's easy to blame innovation on genius and write it off as impossible, but that's where most people go wrong. Its a culmination of frameworks and actions that build innovation, along with conviction and drive.
It all starts with having creative confidence, taking risks, and challenging the status quo. Then it's important to recognize that innovation can be learned and improved through practice (Innovator's DNA). Innovators often use techniques like the 3P framework or design thinking to create products and services that they're proud of. They evaluate markets (Blue Ocean Strategy) and launch products tailored to the needs of the consumers (design thinking). On top of that, innovators build a brand as a foundation to achieve their goals (Observable Culture) and are most successful when they are most passionate (Steve Jobs). They utilize their networks and value every last tie, because weak ties are just as special as professional allies (Startup of You). They pursue creativity and never stop expanding their creative abilities through practice and learning (Creative Confidence). Most challengingly, innovators must prioritize evolution, even in the face of great success, to avoid falling subject to the incumbent's curse (Disruptive Innovation).
I also learned that successful innovators aren't just product based and that social innovation is just as important as technological innovation (Hershey). Teamwork, collaboration, and positivity are determinants in group success and must be present in order to create an innovative environment (Ropes Course Challenge). Strangers are friends, not foes, and hold a whole new world of knowledge that many leave untapped out of fear (The Necessity of Strangers).
Through the topics in this class I can takeaway that innovation can be done by anyone, even me. As I continue through college and venture out into the work world I will always remember that I can capable of creating great, inspiring, new, revolutionary things if I apply the frameworks and mentality of innovation.
Watch out DC, here I come with my BMGT289B bag of tricks...
